Kawasaki Heavy Industries Received order for 86,700m3 LPG-fueled LPG/Ammonia carrier

news-details

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. has signed a shipbuilding contract for one 86,700m3 LPG ( liquefied petroleum gas ) fueled LPG / ammonia carrier for KUMIAI NAVIGATION ( PTE ) LTD in Singapore . This is the third LPG / ammonia carrier contract for the company . Equipped with cargo tanks capable of carrying LPG and liquefied ammonia, the vessel is the 82nd LPG carrier , the 19th LPG-fueled LPG carrier , and the 12th new -type vessel capable of carrying ammonia. Become. She will be built at the Sakaide factory and is scheduled for completion in 2026.

The LPG / ammonia carrier ordered this time can simultaneously transport LPG, which is already being used as a low-carbon energy, and ammonia, which is expected to be used as a new fuel in a decarbonized society in the future. In addition, we have increased the volume of cargo tanks compared to conventional vessels without changing the main hull specifications such as length and width so that they can enter the world's major LPG terminals .

LPG and low sulfur fuel oil can be used as fuel . When LPG is used as fuel, the emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx) and carbon dioxide in the exhaust gas can be greatly reduced compared to when fuel oil is used . Our ships are compliant with EEDI * 2 Phase 3 carbon dioxide emissions regulations that will apply to contracted ships from fiscal 2022 onwards .

In light of environmental regulations that are being strengthened worldwide and concrete action plans represented by the SDGs, we will continue to develop various types of merchant ships that comply with environmental regulations, including LPG-fueled LPG carriers, as well as next - generation energy sources . We will contribute to the realization of a low-carbon and decarbonized society by developing and providing environment-friendly ship technologies such as liquefied hydrogen carriers, which are attracting attention as a carrier.

* 1   SOx emission regulations :
Since January 2015, SOx emission regulations have been enforced in the Emission Control Areas (ECAs) of Europe and the United States, with a sulfur content of 0.1% or less in fuel. In addition, from January 2020, we will use fuel with a sulfur content of 0.5% or less for ships navigating all other sea areas in the world, or an alternative device that reduces SOx from exhaust gas to the same level. is obligatory to use.
* 2   EEDI ( Energy Efficiency Design Index ) regulation : The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), which is defined as the number of grams of CO2 emitted when carrying 1 ton of cargo for 1 mile, is used to meet the regulation value for energy efficiency performance of new ships
. International regulations mandating compliance with EEDI regulation values will be tightened in stages according to the construction contract date and delivery date. For some ship types, such as large LPG carriers and LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers, Phase 3 (30% reduction in CO2 from the standard value (Phase 0)) is required from construction contract ships after FY2022 .
